Ex-offender Basic Skills TrainingGain skills & qualificationsAction Acton is currently running a project at its learning resource centre on South Acton Estate which offers one to one tuition in basic skills (literacy/numeracy) to ex-offenders who want to turn their lives around, get some qualifications & move into work or further training. People can work at their own pace with a personal tutor at our small, friendly centre, and take exams when they are ready. They will also get help with advice & job search from our experienced Advice & Guidance worker. Our clients can be referred to us by different agencies or just contact us direct.
Skillsweb/YOLOThese projects are funded by the ESF and are aimed at people who have recently left custody (within the last 3 months) and have basic skills needs which they want to address. Our clients can enrol at any time & work at their own pace to reach goals they set themselves; be that to gain qualifications, enrol onto vocational courses eg: construction, or to find a job. We can offer all levels of literacy/numeracy tuition from entry 1 to level 2 (GCSE equivalent) usually for an hour or two a week. People aged 16-17 do not need to have had a custodial sentence, but must be under some kind of community order. In addition, clients must be unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week. We also pay travel & childcare costs and can provide lunch. All our clients will also receive a £10 gift voucher for every 20 hours of study & a further £20 for each qualification gained. If you or anyone you know would benefit from these projects please contact Liz Asadi
